Andy Sachs self-portrait inspired by Edward Hopper Andy Sachs artist Brooklyn NY self-portrait Scream  Andy Sachs has always been in a creative mode in one way or another. He has been painting his passions for over 25 years. From his first whiff of oil paint from his grandfather's paint-by-number kits, he was hooked. He credits the painting by Gerome, Pygmalion and Galetea, as a spark of inspiration that opened his eyes to creative possibilities. His other favorite artists are Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper and John Singer Sargent.
He went to Brooklyn Tech to study art in their Industrial Design program and later went to Brooklyn College to major in art and minor in music. He later received his masters degree in teaching art. He taught high school art first at John Jay H.S. and later at Fort Hamilton H.S., teaching photography, digital design, publications and painting.
His work has been seen at DiFara's Pizza where he donated a print of his A Slice of Heaven painting which hung on the oven for many years and was featured on a Tee shirt with the image. A Slice of Heaven can also be seen on the back cover of Lucky Peach, A Quarterly Journal of Food and Writing, Fall 2013.
A print of his Katz's In The Rain, painting also hangs in the main dining room of Katz's Deli in Manhattan. His work is featured on the cover of a math book published by Wiley, Elementary Number Theory With Programming.
Sachs says he is more motivated than ever to continue to put his ideas in paint.
Andy Sachs has also been playing and teaching guitar professionally since 1975 and is currently lead guitarist and singer with the 3 piece classic rock band, 3 Sheets to the Wind NYC, since 2003.
